Nau mai, Haere mai
Welcome
Join us in Tai Tokerau (Northland) to celebrate the
pre-dawn rise of Puanga and Matariki; the Tai Tokerau Matariki Festival 2011.
Throughout Aotearoa (New Zealand) there are
regional differences for when tribes begin to celebrate the Maori New Year. In
Tai Tokerau our celebrations begins at the first sighting of Puanga (Rigel),
which appears in the night sky just before Matariki.
Tai Tokerau welcomes you to our Matariki festival
to bring everyone together and celebrate with our community the many exciting
events involving traditional workshops, guided tours, Maori games, art &
craft exhibitions, kapa haka performances, Matariki Ball Extravaganza, Awards
ceremony, and traditional kai evenings are only some of the few we have on
offer.
